Barrett
Barrett is an Italian men's footwear brand founded by British-born John Richardson Barrett in 1917. It is headquartered in Parma and has mono-brand stores open around the world. The brand's skillful blend of Italian craftsmanship with a modern approach to fashion makes it one of the finest manufacturers of men's footwear.
It is now run by the family and heirs of Eliseo Puzzolu, a man with a passion for luxury footwear who helped the brand through some difficult times. You could say that thanks to his development strategies, you can now buy Barrett's handmade luxury men's shoes.
Handmade, high quality and tradition are key to the success of the Barrett brand
From its founding to this day, Barrett men's shoes are handmade in Italy. Shoes, boots, flip-flops as well as bags, belts and other accessories are made from the highest quality materials. The sewing itself is also strictly controlled, from cutting the upper to painting each pair of shoes.
Italian brand Barrett still uses the strongest, most durable and complex shoe designs. Among them:
- Norwegian is a shoe construction with a rant that connects to the upper with not one but two seams. The upper itself is turned outward at the edges, which makes this construction more protected from moisture.
- Blake-Rapid - a design that allows for flexible and lightweight shoes.
- Goodyear - a shoe design that is used to make many classic types of shoes.
- Bologna is an "endangered" species. This shoe construction is used by only a few companies in the world. For example, such an Italian brand as Amedeo Testoni (A. Testoni) - a "heavyweight" on the fashion Olympus.
Every shoe design that has ever appeared in the collection is retained. Company executives say, "We have 80 lasts and more than 3,500 models." Real Barrett original shoes are elegant, comfortable and durable shoes with the Lavorazione Artigiana mark. With this mark the brand indicates that a pair of shoes or boots was handmade. Legendary models in the brand's collection are tasseled loafers, open-laced derbies and half-brogues.
History of Italian luxury men's footwear brand Barrett
In 1917, the story of Barrett, a manufacturer of high quality men's shoes, began. As founder John Richardson Barrett himself said, the company came about by chance. By 1917 he already owned a tannery in the East End of London.
On a trip in the early 20th century, he visited Italy and ordered a pair of lightweight shoes from the prestigious Tanzi e Zanlari workshop in Parma. John was so impressed by its comfort and lightness that he became a regular customer of the workshop, and then suggested a collaboration - combining the shoemakers' skills with the leather produced in his factory.
Second birthday
The brand had to go into "war mode" during the Second World War, after which it struggled to recover. It only managed to start production again in 1952, when a fan offered himself as a business partner. It turned out to be a young entrepreneur, Eliseo Puzolu, whose family members now run the company.
Beginning in the 1960s, Barrett's main clients were politicians, writers and actors. Among them was the Italian film actor Marcello Mastroianni, a world-famous screen star known for his masterpiece of Italian cinema, "The Big Deal on Madonna Street" and Federico Fellini's "The Sweet Life."
New leadership
In 1997, the brand came under the full management of Eliseo Puzzola's heir, his son Paolo. Thanks to his modern approach to running the business, he increased sales of the shoes. In 1999, the Italian brand launched a sports line called Blu Barrett, which was also represented by the main Barrett official website. It includes loafers, jogging and casual sneakers.
In 2002, Antonio Puzzolu, Paolo's son and Eliseo's grandson, became the second man at the company, stepping in as vice president at the age of 24. For the brand's centenary, Barrett produced a modern version of the 1969 loafer, for which it won the Sinfonia d'argento prize in San Remo.
Barrett shoes are currently sold in single-brand stores in Milan, Paris and Moscow, as well as through retailers shipped to more than 25 countries around the world. In Ukraine you can buy Barrett branded items on Domino.
